Vice President Kamala Harris says she is “ready to serve” as concerns about President Biden's age and mental health continue to grow, including among members of their own party.
Harris made the statement in a recent interview last week ahead of Thursday's release of special counsel Robert Hur's report on Biden's mishandling of classified materials, which described the president's memory as having “significant limitations.”
“I'm ready to serve. There's no doubt about it,” Harris said told the Wall Street Journaladding that everyone who observes his work “comes away fully aware of my ability to lead.”
BIDEN CONSIDERED VICE PRESIDENCY REIGNATION “IN PROTEST” AGAINST OBAMA’S AFGHANISTAN POLICY: HUR REPORT
Hur's report recommended that no charges be brought against Biden for his actions related to the mishandling of classified documents, in part because he would have a defense at trial as a “friendly, well-intentioned older man with a bad memory.
Republicans pounced on Biden after the release of the Hur report last week, but Democrats also began expressing — or at least admitting — greater concern about Biden's age and whether it could hurt his chances of being re-elected this year.
Former President Bill Clinton's top strategist, James Carville, claimed Saturday that the White House had little confidence in Biden after he turned down an offer. Super Bowl Sunday interview.

“It’s the biggest television audience, by far, and you get to do a 20- to 25-minute interview that day,” Carville said. “And you don't? That's kind of a sign that the staff, or yourself, doesn't have a lot of confidence in you. There's no other way to read that.”
Another former Clinton strategist, Paul Begala, said Hur's indictment of Biden's memory and Biden's subsequent response were “terrible for Democrats.”
“Oh yeah. Look, I'm a Biden supporter, and I slept like a baby last night: I woke up every two hours crying and I wet the bed,” Begala joked on CNN on Friday last. “It's terrible for Democrats. And anyone with a functioning brain knows that,” he said.
