Killer Mike Tells ‘The View’ LAPD ‘Panicked’ After Grammys Arrest

Rapper Killer Mike, who was arrested by the LAPD at the Grammys last week and escorted out of the Crypto.com arena in handcuffs, discussed the incident on View Monday morning. Killer Mike, real name Michael Render, had just taken the stage at the nearby Peacock Theater – he won three awards that night, for best rap song, best rap performance and best rap album – before being arrested in connection with comments made by an LAPD spokesperson. described to the Daily Beast as a “physical altercation.”

“Obviously this is an ongoing legal matter, so I don’t know what you can say about it, but can you just give us some sort of description?” co-host Sunny Hostin asked Render.

“I think the backstage was crowded, I think the winners were exuberant and I think the security got a little overzealous,” said Render, who picked up her accolades for her 2023 album. Michael, replied. “You know, that’s water under the bridge for me.”

“I like to say that all my heroes were in handcuffs,” he continued. “Malcolm, Martin, Mandela, Medgar. I walked out with the same dignity and respect that I walked in with, and I implore people to just take that away. Don't dwell on the past.

“I spent three hours kind of alone, you know, you're waiting, and the police said, 'Oh my God, we've never had so many phone calls, people are about to go and demonstrate , we're going to have to move you,'” Mike said. “They're freaked out, and I'm just kind of sitting there, and I start conjuring up thank yous. I thanked God for getting me to where I was, and I thanked God for putting me in a space, believe it or not, on my own.

“I went out that night,” he said. “I went to join my wife in the rain. It was like a love film, it was great. And then we went to party!

Last week, Mike told TMZ that the incident took place due to an altercation between his entourage and an “overzealous” security guard.

“As you can imagine, there was a lot going on and there was some confusion about which door my team and I should enter,” he said. “We encountered an overzealous security guard, but my team and I are confident that I will ultimately be cleared of any wrongdoing.”

Law enforcement sources told TMZ last week that Mike was suspected of running over a guard outside the arena. Video from the aftermath of the alleged altercation shows the rapper exchanging what appear to be tense words with a group of people in uniform.
